Ghassan Salameh, Former Lebanese Minister of Culture"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<p><strong>Ghassan Salameh<\/strong>\u00a0Born in 1951 in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Ghassan Salam\u00e9 has a PhD in Literature and a PhD in Politics at Paris I University, a master\u2019s degree in Lebanese and French law, and a number of qualifications in the arts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Career:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ghassan Salam\u00e9 taught international relations at the American University of Beirut and Saint Joseph University in Beirut and, later, at the University of Paris. He was also Senior Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General (2003\u20132006) and Political Advisor to the UN Mission in Iraq (2003).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2000-2003, he was Lebanon\u2019s Minister of Culture, as well as Chairman and Spokesman of the Organization Committee for the Arab Summit (March 2002) and of the Francophone Summit (October 2002) in Beirut.<\/p>\n<p>Ghassan Salam\u00e9 is currently professor of International Relations at Sciences-Po (Paris) and the founding Dean of its Paris School of International Affairs &#8211; PSIA.<\/p>\n<p>He is presently Vice-Chairman of the Board of the International Crisis Group (Brussels) and sits on the board of the Open Society Institute (New York), the Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies and a few other not-for-profit organizations. He is the founding chairman of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (Beirut).<\/p>\n<p>Ghassan Salam\u00e9 is the author of (inter alia)\u00a0<em>Quand l\u2019Am\u00e9rique refait le monde<\/em>;\u00a0<em>Appels d&#8217;empire: ing\u00e9rences et r\u00e9sistances \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e2ge de la mondialisation<\/em>;\u00a0<em>State and Society in the Arab Levant<\/em>, and editor (inter alia) of Democracy Without Democrats: Politics of Liberalization in the Arab and Muslim World; The Politics of Arab Integration and The Foundations of the Arab State.
